Bustling market town in the Axarquía region, close to Malaga City

Vélez-Málaga is growing in popularity with international property buyers thanks to its combination of Spanish character, rural beauty and charm, as well as excellent seaside towns with a great tourist infrastructure.

It is located between Malaga City and Nerja, a 40 and 30-minute drive respectively. It is also connected by rail to Malaga city.

Vélez-Málaga is inland from the coast and has a long history as a bustling market town with rich farmland in the surrounding valley. As the capital of its region, it is the largest town in Axarquia and is very much an authentic, working Spanish town, with everything that you could possibly need.
The coastal area of Vélez-Málaga is Torre del Mar, which has been a very popular tourist destination since the 1960s. It is frequented by both international and Spanish tourists and has been able to retain a distinctly Spanish air.

Torre del Mar beach is one of the best beaches on the Costa del Sol, with a wide two kilometre stretch of sand, plus a beachfront “paseo” with beach bars and restaurants, playgrounds and fitness facilities. It’s a great place to cycle and you can hire bikes nearby if you don’t have your own. Torre del Mar is known for its excellent seafood restaurants where you can enjoy fresh fish chargrilled over flames right on the sand. During summer the Aquavelis Water Park is a great place to visit and has something to offer adults and kids of all ages. There’s a modern shopping centre, with great clothes shops and a large supermarket. The surrounding coastal towns are also great tourist hotspots.

House hunters will find a wide range of properties in the Vélez-Málaga region. Down on the coast in Torre del Mar there are lots of modern apartment buildings within walking distance of the beach and everything that the town has to offer. It also offers larger properties such as townhouses and villas, and there are even very affordable mobile homes available. In Velez-Malaga itself there’s a mix of new developments, townhouses, apartments and villas and here at Roccabox we can help you to find the right area and property for you.

Not to be missed: Vélez-Málaga Old Town and the fortress, The Weekend Beach music festival in Torre del Mar in July, Baviera “pay & play” Golf club.

Fun Fact: The Casa de Cervantes 16th Century manor house hosted author Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, and according to legend, an illegitimate son of King Philip IV was also born here.
