Waldorf Astoria Marbella: A New Era of Ultra-Luxury Living on the Costa del Sol
Marbella is set to strengthen its position as one of Europe’s leading luxury destinations. The arrival of Waldorf Astoria Marbella will mark the brand’s first resort opening in Spain. Scheduled to welcome guests in 2029, the project represents a €220 million investment. As a result, it will become one of the most significant luxury developments on the Costa del Sol.
The development will transform the Marbella Golf area into the Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort. In doing so, it will combine world-class hospitality with branded residential living.
A Landmark Investment for Marbella
Hilton and Higuerón Developments announced Waldorf Astoria Marbella as a strategic step forward. Importantly, the project reinforces Marbella’s appeal to high-end tourism, lifestyle buyers and long-term investors.
The official presentation took place in New York in November. This international setting highlighted the project’s global relevance. Moreover, it reflected the growing international interest in Marbella’s luxury real estate market.
According to Javier Rodríguez, CEO of Higuerón Developments, the resort aims to become a global benchmark in the ultra-luxury holiday segment. Consequently, it will further consolidate Marbella’s position as a privileged destination for premium tourism and residential projects.
Prime Location with Mediterranean Views
Waldorf Astoria Marbella will occupy an elevated position overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It sits approximately five kilometres from Marbella’s city centre and around 30 minutes from Málaga Airport.
As a result, the resort will offer both privacy and convenience. Residents and guests will enjoy easy access to beaches, amenities and Marbella’s lifestyle offerings. At the same time, the setting provides a strong sense of exclusivity.
Hotel, Branded Residences and Lifestyle Amenities
The resort will include:
120 luxury hotel rooms and suites
120 Waldorf Astoria branded residences
The branded residences will combine the comfort of private homes with five-star hotel services. In addition, Waldorf Astoria will manage all services and amenities. Owners will therefore benefit from bespoke hospitality, private lounges and dedicated residential facilities.
Lifestyle will sit at the centre of the resort experience. Guests and residents will enjoy indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a 750 m² spa and wellness centre, and modern fitness facilities. Furthermore, the resort will feature several dining concepts.
These will include the iconic Peacock Alley, a lobby bar, signature restaurants and outdoor dining spaces. Together, these elements will create a destination focused on comfort, wellbeing and personalised experiences.
Architecture, Design and Golf Excellence
Design excellence will define Waldorf Astoria Marbella. Three Pritzker Prize-winning architects will participate in the conceptual design competition. As a result, the resort will reflect contemporary luxury while respecting its Andalusian surroundings.
Meanwhile, the existing golf course will undergo a significant transformation. Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1994, the course will be reinterpreted by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Importantly, the redesign will preserve the original character of the course. At the same time, it will introduce a more sustainable and contemporary vision.
A Strategic Expansion of Hilton’s Luxury Portfolio
For Hilton, Waldorf Astoria Marbella represents another important milestone. The project supports the continued expansion of Hilton’s global luxury portfolio, which now exceeds 550 luxury hotels worldwide.
Notably, the Marbella resort will join a prestigious collection. This includes Waldorf Astoria New York, Shanghai and Helsinki, as well as upcoming developments in London and Rabat.
Chris Nassetta, President and CEO of Hilton, described the project as an opportunity to deliver elegant service and unforgettable experiences in Southern Spain. Therefore, Marbella will further strengthen its position among the world’s most desirable luxury destinations.
What This Means for Marbella Real Estate
The arrival of Waldorf Astoria Marbella extends beyond hospitality alone. Developments of this calibre often elevate surrounding neighbourhoods. They also attract international attention. As a result, long-term demand for premium property typically strengthens.
Moreover, branded residences continue to appeal to global buyers. Many seek a combination of security, service and lifestyle within a real estate investment. Consequently, projects like this play an active role in shaping the future of luxury living on the Costa del Sol.
Looking Ahead
With an expected opening in 2029, Waldorf Astoria Marbella is a development to watch closely. Overall, it represents a new chapter for luxury tourism in Marbella. At the same time, it signals continued confidence in the region’s high-end property market.
