Cabopino Golf sits on the eastern edge of Marbella, an 18-hole coastal course that has been part of local life since it opened in 2001. Juan Ligués Creus designed it. The layout plays to a par of 71 over 5,193 metres, with a course rating of 69.1 and a slope of 130. Those figures point to a track that rewards careful play rather than power, and that is partly why it has kept its following among residents and visiting golfers for more than twenty years.

The routing is properly coastal. It runs through pine and across rolling ground rather than the flatter parkland you find further inland. The first real test arrives early. The third is a par 4 with an elevated tee and a drop of around 80 metres to a green ringed by bunkers. It tells you what kind of course this is within the first twenty minutes. After that, the views and the water hazards do plenty of the work.

The 10th is the standout for scenery, a par 4 with the Mediterranean laid out below the player. The 13th and 15th are both par 3s guarded by lakes, and they ask for committed iron play. The 14th is the longest hole at 456 metres, a par 5 with water at the front and rear of the green, so the closing run becomes a test of restraint as much as distance. None of these holes feel forced. They use the land and water that were already there.

Practice facilities are generous for a course this size. The Golf Academy has a putting green, bunkers and approach areas, with surfaces on both carpet and grass. The driving range runs 200 metres long and 160 metres wide and takes 30 players at once, so a full morning warm-up rarely means waiting. Tuition and short-game practice are part of the site rather than an afterthought.

Access is simple. Cabopino runs as a public course, so green-fee players play alongside members with no need to be introduced. The dress code is standard golf attire, and metal spikes are not allowed. If you are working out how often you would actually play, a public course in your own postcode is a very different proposition from a private club with sponsorship and a waiting list.

The course occupies the Cabopino area itself, where the N-340 meets the coast about fifteen minutes east of Marbella town and a similar distance west of the airport. The marina, the dune-backed beach at Artola and several low-rise residential pockets are a short drive away, which gives the area a self-contained feel rather than a commuter one. Restaurants near the marina stay open through the shoulder seasons, which matters if a property is used beyond July and August.
